Ethereum Foundation Launches Dedicated AI Team
The Ethereum Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the Ethereum ecosystem, is creating a full-time team focused on artificial intelligence. The team will be called the dAI Team, reflecting Ethereum’s values of decentralization and democracy.
The dAI Team aims to unite developers from blockchain and AI fields. “We want to bridge the gap between blockchain organizations and AI organizations,” said Davide Crapis, an Ethereum core developer who will lead the group.
He added, “We are realizing that AI is going to be a big part of the lives of all humans. And it’s going to be a large part of Ethereum usage in the future.”
Building Standards for AI Agents on Ethereum
The dAI Team will start with three full-time positions, and the Ethereum Foundation is already hiring. Crapis said this is the first step in preparing Ethereum for the growing AI sector. “Ethereum’s infrastructure has so far been focused mostly on finance,” he said. “It needs to be very usable for AI as well.”
The team’s first project is ERC-8004, a new standard that will allow AI agents to find each other, verify identities, and conduct transactions on Ethereum. The proposal is expected to be finalized at Devconnect, the Ethereum developer conference in Buenos Aires this November.
Crapis said the goal is to build a decentralized AI stack to prevent control by a few large corporations. He compared this effort to the early days of decentralized finance (DeFi), which started small and later attracted major institutions.
Ensuring Open and Fair AI Systems
The Ethereum Foundation confirmed the dAI Team will support standards like ERC-8004 and fund public projects at the intersection of AI and blockchain.
Crapis explained on X that the group will promote AI systems that are neutral, verifiable, and censorship-resistant. “Ethereum makes AI more trustworthy, and AI makes Ethereum more useful,” he wrote.
The foundation is already collaborating with major Silicon Valley companies on AI research, though details remain private. “The focus needs to be on building the best decentralized technology we can offer,” Crapis said.
