New Crypto Scam Targets Users on Apple App Store

Hackers are using the Apple App Store to scam crypto users. They upload fake trading apps that mimic popular Web3 platforms.

These scammers buy old Apple developer accounts. They rename and redesign the apps to look legitimate. The fake apps rank high in search results, making them easy to find and trust.

How the Scam Works

  • Users download the fake apps, believing they are real.
  • Once users transfer funds, the money is stolen instantly.
  • The apps often ask for private keys, which is a major red flag.

Crypto user PixOnChain alerted the community on X (formerly Twitter). He reported that two users lost about $28,000 after using one fake app.

He wrote, “Scammers are buying old Apple dev accounts and renaming the apps to look like popular web3 trading dapps. They show up high in search, look 100% legit, but once you send funds, it’s instantly drained.”

Warnings and User Experiences

Users shared similar stories in the comments. One said the app asked to manually input a private key, which no genuine crypto app requests.

Scammers exploit trusted platforms and current crypto trends. Using abandoned developer accounts helps fake apps bypass Apple’s screening process.
