Amundi to Launch Bitcoin ETNs in Early 2026
Amundi, Europe’s largest asset manager with over €2 trillion in assets, plans to launch its first Bitcoin exchange-traded notes (ETNs) in early 2026. This move will make Amundi the first major European institution to enter the Bitcoin market through regulated investment products. Until now, this space has been dominated by U.S. issuers.
After years of monitoring the market, Amundi decided to enter Europe’s digital asset sector. The ETNs will offer exposure to Bitcoin while complying with Europe’s stricter regulations. These products will act as a regional counterpart to American Bitcoin ETFs.
Impact on European Bitcoin Market
Amundi’s launch could mark a turning point for Bitcoin in Europe. It signals growing institutional acceptance of Bitcoin within traditional finance. The new ETNs may attract pension funds, insurers, and sovereign investors who were previously restricted from crypto investments under EU rules.
By leveraging its size and reputation, Amundi could help shift European Bitcoin investment from retail speculation to an institutional asset class.
Institutional Bitcoin Demand Grows Globally
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) currently holds over 800,000 BTC, about 3.8% of Bitcoin’s total supply, valued near $97 billion. IBIT’s rapid growth has made it BlackRock’s most profitable product, surpassing its S&P 500 fund. This shows how Bitcoin exposure has moved from niche speculation to a key part of institutional portfolios.
Amundi’s entry follows rising institutional demand for Bitcoin on both sides of the Atlantic. BlackRock’s ETF success highlights the U.S. regulatory advantage. Amundi’s ETNs could help close the gap by providing regulated Bitcoin access in Europe.
Together, BlackRock and Amundi represent the growing institutionalization of Bitcoin. BlackRock has set a regulatory precedent in the U.S., while Amundi is extending it to Europe. This development signals Bitcoin’s integration into mainstream global finance.
