Bitnomial Becomes First U.S. Exchange to Accept Stablecoins as Margin Collateral
Bitnomial Inc., a U.S.-based derivatives exchange company, announced on November 4, 2025, that its subsidiary, Bitnomial Clearinghouse LLC, is the first U.S.-registered derivatives clearing organization (DCO) to accept stablecoins as native margin collateral. The clearinghouse now supports Ripple USD (RLUSD) and has expanded its digital asset margin program to include XRP.
This update follows Bitnomial’s initial rollout of crypto margin deposits in September 2025. Institutional clients can now use RLUSD and XRP as margin deposits on Bitnomial Exchange immediately.
Expert Insights on New Margin Options
At the Ripple Swell conference in New York, Luke Hoersten, CEO of Bitnomial, said, “Adding RLUSD and XRP as margin collateral represents a major evolution in how traders can deploy their digital assets. RLUSD brings stablecoin efficiency to our margin system, allowing traders to hold USD-equivalent positions on-chain while accessing our full suite of derivatives products. Combined with XRP support, this gives our clients unprecedented flexibility in managing capital across their trading strategies.”
Michael Dunn, President of Bitnomial Exchange, LLC, added that the new collateral options improve capital efficiency for traders. He called stablecoins a reliable choice for retail and institutional traders, offering USD stability with fast blockchain settlement. Dunn noted that traders can now leverage stablecoins and XRP to access all CFTC-regulated crypto derivatives without friction.
Jack McDonald, SVP Stablecoins at Ripple, commented, “With today’s announcement adding native support for RLUSD and XRP as margin collateral, Bitnomial cements its position as one of the most forward-thinking derivatives exchanges in the U.S. Stablecoins are moving from speculative use cases to real-world applications, with RLUSD, as a trusted tier-1 USD-backed stablecoin, leading the pack.”
Bitnomial’s Market Vision and Impact
Bitnomial has pioneered capital-efficient market infrastructure in the U.S. It was the first to launch regulated perpetual futures and to accept digital assets as margin collateral. Now, it is also the first to accept stablecoins for this purpose.
The integration of RLUSD stablecoin and XRP margin collateral, alongside existing Bitcoin and Ether margin options, creates a comprehensive digital asset margin system on a U.S.-regulated exchange.
This initiative aims to help crypto-native funds, institutional traders, and market makers deploy digital asset portfolios more efficiently while meeting full regulatory compliance.
All Bitnomial futures and options contracts are offered and governed by Bitnomial Exchange, LLC and cleared through Bitnomial Clearinghouse, LLC. Use of RLUSD and XRP as margin collateral is subject to applicable regulatory approvals.
