Coinbase Launches New Prediction Markets Platform
Coinbase is building a new prediction markets platform with Kalshi. The platform will allow real-time trading on sports, politics, crypto, and more. Users can trade “yes/no” contracts with prices set by traders. Outcomes will be based on trusted, verified sources.
Tech researcher Jane Manchun Wong revealed the platform through screenshots on November 18, 2025. She is known for discovering unreleased tech features. The platform will operate under Coinbase Financial Markets, the company’s derivatives division. Kalshi, a U.S.-based prediction market operator, will partner with Coinbase to offer this service.
How the Prediction Market Works
- Each contract pays $1 if the event happens and $0 if it does not.
- Contract prices reflect the market’s perceived probability of the event.
- Users can buy or sell “yes” or “no” contracts before an event settles.
- Markets will cover crypto, politics, sports, economics, entertainment, science, and technology.
- Users must have a Coinbase account and complete onboarding for the regulated derivatives entity.
- Trades can be funded with USD or USDC from the user’s Coinbase wallet.
- Funds transfer to and from the derivatives account when positions open or close.
- Event outcomes rely on official data or trusted news as the “source of truth.”
The platform will follow U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rules. All markets will be offered through Coinbase Financial Markets via KalshiEX LLC. Coinbase warns users that trading involves risks and past results do not guarantee future performance.
Prediction Markets Gain Wider Adoption
Prediction markets are growing in finance and crypto sectors. Yahoo Finance recently partnered with Polymarket to deliver prediction data. Google Finance now displays real-time event probabilities from Polymarket and Kalshi. These cover subjects like elections, inflation, and crypto milestones.
Other crypto exchanges are entering the space. Gemini plans to launch Gemini Titan, a federally regulated prediction market under CFTC oversight. Trump Media & Technology Group partnered with Crypto.com to create Truth Predict on its Truth Social platform.
These developments show prediction markets expanding from niche crypto sites to mainstream finance and social media. More users now track real-world events through prediction market platforms.
