DeFiLlama Removes Aster’s Perpetual Futures Volume Data
DeFiLlama has removed Aster’s perpetual futures trading volume data from its platform. The decision came after doubts about the accuracy of Aster’s reported volumes. Aster is a decentralized exchange linked to Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao.
DeFiLlama’s co-founder, known as 0xngmi, revealed that Aster’s perpetual trading volumes started closely mirroring Binance’s perpetual futures volumes. This raised concerns about the authenticity of Aster’s data.
Volumes Show Near-Perfect Correlation with Binance
0xngmi shared charts showing that trading pairs like XRPUSDT and ETHUSDT on Aster moved almost exactly like they do on Binance. This near one-to-one match is unusual. In contrast, the same pairs on Hyperliquid showed natural fluctuations, indicating real trading activity.
DeFiLlama also noted that it cannot access detailed order data on Aster. This includes information on which wallets place and fill trades. Without this data, verifying if the trades are genuine or part of wash trading is impossible.
“Aster doesn’t make it possible to get lower-level data, so until we can verify if there’s wash trading, Aster perpetual volumes will be delisted,” 0xngmi said. He emphasized that the decision aims to protect data accuracy, not to take sides.
Aster launched in mid-September as a competitor to Hyperliquid. Built on BNB Chain and backed by YZi Labs, it quickly grew in the decentralized perpetuals market. By the end of September, Aster’s reported perpetual trading volumes reached around $60 billion.
Following the announcement, Aster’s native token ASTER fell from $2 to $1.8, a 9.23% drop in 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. ASTER currently trades at $1.84 with a market cap near $3.06 billion. Its 24-hour trading volume dropped about 9.32% to $1.22 billion.
Data Integrity Remains Priority for DeFiLlama
Reactions to DeFiLlama’s removal of Aster’s perpetual data were mixed on X. Some supported the move to maintain data reliability. Others accused the platform of bias.
0xngmi clarified that neither he nor DeFiLlama has financial ties to Aster or Hyperliquid. He added that the platform has taken similar actions against other decentralized exchanges when data integrity was in question.
DeFiLlama confirmed that Aster’s spot trading and total value locked (TVL) data will stay on the platform. Only perpetual futures data will be removed until more transparency is provided.
“Our users trust our data and make investing decisions based on it. If we report incorrect data, they’ll make the wrong decisions,” 0xngmi said. He stressed that data integrity is DeFiLlama’s top priority.
Aster has not yet responded officially to the delisting decision.
