Joseph Lubin Explains MetaMask Rewards Program
Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO, clarified MetaMask’s new rewards program. The program, announced last week, has sparked discussion in the crypto community.
In a post on X, Lubin said the program is not a speculative token airdrop. Instead, it rewards real on-chain activity on the Linea Layer 2 network. He confirmed early prototypes exist but emphasized the official program will distribute over $30 million in LINEA tokens during Season 1. Rewards will be based on on-chain actions and user referrals.
Lubin called this the first step toward stronger community engagement and rewards for MetaMask users. He highlighted the importance of building token economies across Linea and the upcoming DIN project. He also encouraged inactive users to update and use MetaMask to qualify for rewards.
MetaMask’s $30 Million LINEA Token Rewards
On October 4, MetaMask announced its MetaMask Rewards program will launch soon. The program will distribute more than $30 million in LINEA tokens during its first season.
MetaMask described the initiative as a genuine way to reward its community regularly, beyond traditional yield farming. Users can claim rewards through MetaMask’s Portfolio interface.
The program includes rewards for referrals, using mUSD, exclusive partner incentives, and recognition for long-time users. However, full eligibility details have not yet been released. Some community members speculated the rewards might relate to a future MetaMask native token, but this has not been confirmed.
MetaMask’s Official Statement
MetaMask tweeted on October 4 that previous rumors about the program were inaccurate. The company confirmed the rewards will include referral bonuses and other incentives. They emphasized the program aims to give back to the community in a meaningful way.
