Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings with Large Purchase
Metaplanet Inc., a leading Japanese bitcoin treasury firm, bought 5,419 Bitcoin (BTC) on September 22. The average price per coin was about 17.28 million yen ($116,724). The total purchase cost roughly 93.6 billion yen ($632.53 million).
According to Metaplanet’s official announcement, the company now holds 25,555 BTC. The average acquisition cost is approximately 15.58 million yen ($106,065) per coin. Overall, Metaplanet has invested close to 398.2 billion yen ($2.71 billion) in Bitcoin.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin trades near $114,575, according to CoinMarketCap. This values Metaplanet’s holdings at about $2.93 billion.
This purchase follows a smaller buy of 136 BTC on September 18, 2025. With these acquisitions, Metaplanet has reached over 85% of its 2025 goal to hold 30,000 BTC.
Performance Metrics and Recent Share Offering
Metaplanet tracks its Bitcoin performance using metrics called BTC Yield, BTC Gain, and BTC ¥ Gain. From July 1 to September 22, 2025, the company reported a BTC Yield of 10.3%.
To fund its Bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet has been active in capital markets. Since July, it redeemed bonds and raised funds through stock acquisition rights.
Earlier in September, Metaplanet issued 385 million new shares in an international offering. This raised about $1.4 billion (approximately 205 billion yen). Most of the funds, around 183.7 billion yen, are earmarked for Bitcoin purchases over the next two months. Nearly half of this amount has already been spent.
Company Growth and Market Activity
Metaplanet began treating Bitcoin as an official business line in late 2024. Since then, it has steadily increased its holdings through equity fundraising and bond activity.
According to Yahoo Finance, Metaplanet’s stock closed at 597 yen, down 11 yen (1.65%) in Tokyo trading.
