Metis Launches v7 and Becomes Independent
Jupiter, the Solana DeFi aggregator, has launched Metis v7. Metis will now operate as an independent, open-source swap primitive. Since 2021, Metis served as Jupiter’s “cornerstone router” for the Solana ecosystem.
With the new update, Metis offers builders full control over transaction execution. Developers can set custom logic and manage their own RPC endpoints. This change establishes Metis as a neutral, community-focused infrastructure tool.
Reasons for Metis’ Separation from Jupiter
Previously a public service under Jupiter, Metis now separates to better support the growing ecosystem. Jupiter’s platform is powered by the multi-router system Ultra, making this an ideal time for Metis to become standalone.
Metis v7 includes improved routing algorithms, better performance, and access to over 60 liquidity venues. This release is Jupiter’s last to manage directly, marking Metis’ transition to independent public good status.
The split helps clear confusion caused by Metis routes being called “Jupiter quotes.” It also allows Jupiter to focus on its advanced features, like the Ultra execution engine and Request for Quote (RFQ) system.
Metis Capabilities and Target Users
- Operational since 2021, Metis is a low-level swap primitive for developers.
- It returns raw instruction-level payloads rather than pre-built transactions.
- Offers “Total Composability” for custom instructions and on-chain program integration.
- Designed for users needing full authority over logic, priority fees, slippage, and transaction broadcasting.
- Supports new features like Just-in-Time (JIT) aggregation and Brent Op Splitting for optimized trade execution.
Access to the Metis v7 Binary requires staking 10,000 JUP tokens to prevent spam. Current users have one month to migrate to the new version. This update hands over a powerful routing tool to the Solana developer community, while Jupiter focuses on broader DeFi super app functions.
