PancakeSwap’s Chinese X Account Hacked
PancakeSwap, a decentralized exchange from BNB Chain, confirmed its official Chinese X account was hacked on October 8, 2025. The team is working with X to resolve the issue. Users were warned not to click links or engage with posts from the compromised account.
PancakeSwap advised users to trust only updates from its official X account.
Details of the Hack and Impact
Attackers used the hacked account to promote a fake token called “Sir Pancake.” This token generated over $20 million in trading volume before the scam was detected. The hackers also promoted fake airdrops and a “Mr Pancake” meme token.
They directed users to counterfeit websites that closely resembled PancakeSwap’s official site. The attackers used phishing techniques, including slight changes in website addresses, to mislead users. Wallets connected to these sites risked immediate loss of funds.
PancakeSwap confirmed no user funds or platform assets were compromised. The team quickly removed fraudulent posts and urged users to follow only official announcements. Investigations are ongoing, and security measures are being improved.
Despite the hack, PancakeSwap’s token CAKE rose 10% within 24 hours, reaching $4.34. Trading volume increased by 80%, according to CoinMarketCap.
Rising Social Media Crypto Scams
This attack follows a similar hack on October 1, when BNB Chain’s official X account was compromised. Hackers posted phishing links offering fake $BSC rewards to steal user wallets.
Binance co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao and the BNB Chain team warned users to avoid suspicious links and trust only verified channels. Both incidents highlight the growing threat of social media scams in crypto.
They emphasize the need for strong account security and user vigilance across crypto platforms and communities.
